The Creative Director is an experienced design professional with experience in resource management, career development, design processes, and methodologies for the design group at Method. You will work closely with the UX Director, CCO, and executive management across the studio to ensure all design staff are working efficiently and successfully towards our mission of designing and creating highly effective and compelling brand experiences for our clients. He or she actively helps define and refine the processes necessary to achieve that goal. In this highly visible and exciting role, you will ultimately lead, mentor, and champion the design process within the design group, across the organization, and for our clients. This individual is also adept and pitching for new business and presenting work to the client.

Responsibilities
-Partner with director level staff to establish design group goals, structure, and methodologies.
-Act as the conduit for communicating the design group’s point of view and processes to the entire company.
-Manage design resource assignments, in conjunction with the studio’s resource manager and project managers, in order to ensure good fits on project work and good utilization of our talent pool.
-Partner with group directors in the management of employee career path definition, goal setting, and employee reviews.
-Evaluate team performance across projects.
-Provide mentorship and aid the team in performing to their full potential on engagements.
-Partner with group directors to establish Method as a great place to work for designers, and to establish our reputation as a desired place of employment.
-Work to recruit and retain top talent for the studio.
-Collect and maintain an archive of team skills, designer portfolio samples, and team strengths matrices.
-Establish Design Lunches where Method designers share their expertise and knowledge with the rest of the studio.
-Be an example of good design process and have a portfolio to back it up.
-Work with sales, client services, and marketing teams to ensure that the presentation of Method’s work to clients, new business leads, and press contacts maintains a consistent style and level of quality.

SPECIFIC SKILLS

Skills/Qualifications
-8+ years of proven experience in a design leadership position.
-BA or equivalent in an applicable area of study.
-A solid understand of user-centered design, with an emphasis on extending brands across a broad range of customer touchpoints.
-Proven experience defining contemporary process and methodologies for integrated design teams.
-Experience working in a comparable studio environment preferred.
-Effective communication skills (both in conversation and in writing).
-A solid understanding of developing on and offline design deliverables for established and evolving platforms.
-Award winning design portfolio and a passion for clean, functional and outstanding design.

Program Manager

Mayors’ Institute on City Design / American Architectural Foundation

The Mayors’ Institute on City Design (MICD) is seeking a Program Manager. Established in 1986, MICD is a leadership initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) in partnership with the United States Conference of Mayors (USCM) and the American Architectural Foundation (AAF). The MICD is a dynamic national program that engages and educates mayors on issues related to community design and planning through national and regional conferences. MICD has a significant track record of influence and shapes the design and development of American cities. Through a Cooperative Agreement between the NEA and AAF, the American Architectural Foundation is the administrator and a co-funder of MICD

This is a program manager position employed by the American Architectural Foundation, reporting to the Director of the Mayors’ Institute on City Design. The candidate will work under the supervision of the Director to identify and recruit resource team members and mayors, develop mayors’ case studies, manage the logistics of the institutes, update and develop web content, and respond to various communication inquiries.

The successful candidate will possess knowledge and passion in a broad range of areas related to life in American’s urban communities including community governance, political systems, urban design, city planning, urban growth, public education, neighborhood development, and architecture within the context of the physical design of the city and its various components.

The MICD National Office is located in the United States Conference of Mayors headquarters at 1620 Eye Street NW in Washington, DC. The office is easily accessible by Metro rail. No relocation expenses will be paid for this position. This position includes a competitive salary and a generous benefits package, including health and dental insurance, a retirement savings plan, and a transit subsidy.
